Instrumental was honored to be featured as one of The Information’s Startups to Watch for 2018.

Here’s a short excerpt on why we made the list, written by Aaron Tilley:

“As an Apple employee for nearly six years, Anna-Katrina Shedletsky helped oversee the manufacturing of the iPod and first-generation Apple Watch at the company’s contract manufacturers in China. Her experience was that consumer electronics manufacturers integrated automation much more slowly than the hype around robotics suggested. She would stand on the manufacturing lines for hours, hoping to be in the right place at the right time to find any problems.

“Now, as the co-founder and CEO of three-year-old Instrumental, Ms. Shedletsky is trying to automate a part of the electronics manufacturing process. Instrumental sells a camera and machine-learning software that checks for any problems along manufacturing lines. The startup works directly with device makers, including phone makers, and has helped manufacture four phones that shipped this year. Ultimately, the Palo Alto, Calif., company wants to use the data it gathers to expand automation to other parts of the manufacturing process.”
